Teacher Contract Status

The Perkiomen Valley School Board is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Perkiomen Valley Education Association (PVEA). Once ratified by both parties, it will become the new contract for members of the district’s teachers’ union.

The PVEA is slated to share the terms of the tentative agreement at a membership meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 3, and will then meet again to vote on the agreement Friday, Sept. 5. The Board will vote on the tentative agreement at its regularly scheduled business meeting on Monday, Sept. 8.

The terms of the agreement will remain private until the union has held its ratification vote. Details will be shared publicly at the Sept. 8 Board meeting.

The tentative agreement was reached during a formal negotiation session held on Aug. 12, 2014, after 20 months of negotiations. The PVEA has been working under the terms of its last contract, which expired on Aug. 31, 2013.

“We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with our teachers before the new school year begins,” said Board President Ann Mantey. “Having a contract in place means a positive start this fall for our entire community. It will also enable the Board to place its focus squarely on the issues and challenges that are expected to be a part of the next year’s budget process. We look forward to continuing to work with our teachers to make our district an outstanding place to learn, live and work.”

PVEA President Bill McGill expressed similar thoughts.

“We are pleased to have a tentative agreement with the school district. Having an agreement will allow the teachers in the Perkiomen Valley School District to maintain our focus on the high-quality education we provide for our students. We will start the school year on a positive note this year,” said Mr. McGill.
